What kind of hole?

Six holes, six fixes

The size of the hole and whether any leather is missing decide how it is closed. One close photo is usually enough to tell which leather hole repair NJ approach fits.

Why it lasts

A hole needs something behind it

Behind most holes there is only soft foam, so filler pushed in from the front sinks and cracks. Every leather hole repair NJ job we take is built in three layers instead.

  1. Support behindA flexible backing goes under the opening so the repair is held from the foam side.
  2. Fill the gapFiller or, for bigger holes, a piece of matching leather closes the space level with the surface.
  3. Grain on topTexture is pressed into the last coat so the spot catches light like the leather around it.
How it works

Three steps to a closed hole

Back and Fill
01. Back and Fill
The backing is set and filler is built up in thin, flexible layers.
Color and Blend
02. Color and Blend
Matched color is worked in and feathered past the edges of the repair.
Seal the Surface
03. Seal the Surface
A topcoat at the original sheen locks it in and protects it.
When leather is missing

Where the matching piece comes from

A large hole cannot be filled with compound alone. For a leather hole repair NJ job with missing leather, this is where we look for the insert.

Under the deck

The leather under the seat cushions is usually the same hide and never seen.

Inside the back

Some backs have a hidden flap or a lining where a small piece can be taken.

Matched stock

If no hidden leather is free, we match a new piece by grain, weight and color.

Color evened out

Whatever the source, the insert is recolored so it reads as one with the panel.

Can a hole in leather be fixed without replacing the panel?

In most cases, yes. Leather hole repair NJ homeowners book with us closes the opening from behind, fills it and matches the color, so the panel stays. Replacement is only worth it when the hole is very large or the leather around it is failing too.

What if a piece of leather is missing?

We insert a matching piece. Where possible it comes from hidden leather on the same sofa, so the grain and color are already right.

Will the patch feel stiff?

No. The backing and filler are flexible, made to bend with the cushion. A hard, shiny patch is usually a sign of a glue kit.

Can you fix a cigarette burn hole?

Yes. The burned edge is trimmed back to sound leather first, then it is repaired like any other hole.
