How bad is it?

Four levels of burn

From a shiny mark to a hole with brittle edges. The level decides whether a leather burn repair NJ job is a refinish, a fill or an insert.

Surface scorch on leather

Wide scorch on brown leather before and after repair
Not every burn is a hole

Wide scorch marks

Sometimes the heat spreads over an area instead of burning through: a pan set down, a heater too close. The leather stays whole but the finish is blackened. Here the work is sanding, filling the texture and recoloring the area so it blends into the cushion.

Where burns come from

Burns we see in NJ homes

Backyard fire pits, wood-burning fireplaces and long candlelit evenings account for most of the leather burn repair NJ calls we get.

Fire pits and patio heaters

Summer evenings on the deck: a spark or an ember lands on the outdoor sofa or a chair carried out from inside.

Fireplaces

A popping log in a family-room fireplace can throw an ember several feet onto a nearby armchair.

Candles and hookahs

A candle tipped against an arm, or a coal dropped from a hookah bowl, leaves a deep round burn.

Hot tools

Laptops, hair straighteners and coffee mugs leave glossy heat marks rather than holes.

Can a cigarette burn in leather be repaired?

Yes. The charred edge is cut back to sound leather, the hole is backed and filled, and the color is matched. Leather burn repair NJ homeowners book with us usually leaves a spot that is hard to find unless you know where it was.

Is a heat mark the same as a burn?

Not quite. A heat mark is a glossy or darkened patch where the finish melted but the leather did not open. It often needs only refinishing, which is quicker.

Does the burn smell go away?

Most of the smell is in the charred leather and foam right at the burn. Once that is cut out and sealed, the smell usually goes with it.

What if the burn is big?

A large burn may need a piece of matching leather set in, or a new panel. We will tell you which after seeing photos.
