One burn should not cost you a chair
Flat-iron marks, colour stains, split seams and cracked seat edges, fixed on the panel they are on. The chair stays where it is and so does the rest of the vinyl.
Most of it is one panel, not one chair
A styling chair fails in spots, not all over. A hot tool lands on an arm pad, colour sits on the same corner for a year, a seam opens where the back folds — and the other ninety per cent of the chair is fine.
Salon furniture repair works on the damage itself. If the vinyl is still flexible and the colour is still there, a repair costs a fraction of recovering and takes an hour rather than a night.
Across New Jersey most of what we are called out for is exactly this: one burn, one seam, one stained headrest. Salon furniture repair done early is the difference between an hour on a quiet Tuesday and a closed station in six months.
Six kinds of salon damage

Hot tool burns
A flat iron or wand set down on the arm for two seconds. Melts a crater straight through the top coat.

Colour stains
Permanent tint on porous vinyl. Wiped off the surface, but the pigment is already in it.

Split seams
Where the back flexes with every recline. Opens along the stitch line, not across the panel.

Cracked edges
The front lip everyone slides across. Hardened by cleaning, then cracked by use.

Rubbed sides
Capes, aprons and tool belts passing the same spot forty times a day.

Product on headrests
Spray and serum build a film that goes yellow. Colour work, not cleaning.

Masked off, done between clients
Single-panel repairs take about an hour and can happen during a quiet slot. Anything involving colour across a whole chair is better after close, so the sealer cures overnight.
The station is sheeted either way. Nothing reaches your mirrors, your tools or the next chair.
Four steps on one panel
Cut back
Melted and charred edge removed so the filler bonds to sound material.
Fill level
Built up in layers and levelled flush with the panel around it.
Grain and colour
Texture matched to the surrounding vinyl, then colour built to your chair, not a chart.
Seal
Topcoat matched for sheen so the repair does not sit shinier than the rest.

Same chair, same day

Not only the styling chairs

Wet seams
The seam at the neck rest goes first. Closed and sealed before water gets into the foam.

Edges and corners
Where clients get on and off. Repaired long before the table needs recovering.

Arms and basin lip
Acetone and water at the same point. Patched and resealed on the chair.

First thing seen
Benches and sofas in full view of everyone waiting. Usually the cheapest fix in the building.
Also nail stations, stools, waiting benches and wood trim — the whole list is on the services page.
When a repair is not the answer
Hardened by years of chemicals. Filling one crack buys weeks, and the next appears beside it.
Common on backwash and treatment tables. Repairing the cover over soaked foam fails in months.
That is recolouring, not repair — and it is still far cheaper than a new chair.
A third pass on the same panel is money after money. It wants recovering.
We say which of these you are looking at before you spend anything. Telling you to recover one chair is better business than repairing it three times.
Across New Jersey, between appointments
Salons, barbershops, spas, nail bars, medspas and tattoo studios from Hoboken and Montclair to Red Bank and the shore.
Before you book
Can you fix a flat-iron burn?
Yes, and it is routine. The charred edge is cut back, the crater filled level, then grain and colour rebuilt over it.
Will the repair match?
At arm's length, yes. Colour is mixed against your chair and the sheen matched so it does not sit shinier than the rest.
Does the chair leave the salon?
No. Everything is done in place with the station masked off.
Can you come during opening hours?
For a single panel, yes — about an hour in a quiet slot. Whole-chair colour work is better after close.
Will hair colour stains come out?
Usually, if the vinyl is sound. Permanent tint that has been sitting for a year may need the panel recoloured rather than cleaned.
One chair or do we need all of them done?
One is fine. We will tell you honestly if the others are close behind.
How much cheaper is repair than recovering?
Roughly a quarter, when the vinyl is still flexible and only the damage is local.
We will tell you what it needs
One picture of the worst chair and a count of the rest. Repair, recolour or recover — priced separately so you can choose.
